Moscow

Moscow is a dynamic business and cultural hub for Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Summer can be fantastic with temperatures in the 20s to mid 30s for nearly 6 months and lots of outdoor cafes and beer gardens to make the most of weather. Firms in Moscow

As a key international business centre, there are approximately twenty UK/US law firms with established Moscow offices that easily compete with Russian firms for local market dominance. Most top tier firms have a mix of Russian, English, New Zealand, Australian and American lawyers in the office which makes for a culturally diverse and cosmopolitan workplace.

Salaries

Salaries are generous, with most firms paying at least the equivalent of Magic Circle London salaries. Salaries with certain firms include an accommodation allowance.

Taxes

The personal income tax rate in Russia is one of the most attractive in the world due to the comparatively low rate of 13% for residents. To become a "Resident" for the purposes of the Russian Tax Code one must be present in Russian territory for a period of no less than 183 calendar days within twelve consecutive months. The personal income tax rate for non-residents is 30%.

Relocation Expenses

Most international firms offer a relocation package which includes the costs of your flight (including immediate family), the costs of shipping and on average 4 weeks accommodation in a serviced apartment when you first arrive.

Visa requirements

To work in Moscow all non nationals will require a working visa. Sponsorship is facilitated by firms in advance.

Cost of Living

For expatriates, Moscow is not as expensive as London, Seoul, Tokyo or Hong Kong, but it comes close! The main cost is accommodation where the average cost for a two bedroom apartment is circa $3,000AU. Expect to pay at least $30AU a head for a meal in a restaurant.
