Our client is an international law firm with a reputation for innovation and a sector-based approach to market. With over 700 staff, it places a particular emphasis on providing commercial legal solutions and building trusted relationships with its clients. Its success relies on its Business Services teams who use their specialist expertise to provide proactive and advisory business support. Employees in the Business Services teams benefit from an open and equal working environment, with extensive training opportunities and the opportunity to effect change within the business.
Our client's Finance Team is responsible for the financial management of the firm, revenue control, office accounting, reporting and analysis. The team offers strategic benefits to the firm, implementing solid financial processes and supporting firm-wide decision making. A philosophy of continuous improvement underpins the operations.
There is currently an opportunity for an experienced Financial Controller, based in its London office, to start as soon as possible. Working with the Finance Team and reporting to the CFO the successful candidate will assume responsibility for the following:
• Management – Overall responsibility for our client's Finance Team of 17 staff. Working with the Chief Financial Officer, the successful candidate will provide leadership and direction for the managers of the team.
• Financial Accounts – Preparation of the financial statements all of our client's entities including LLP and limited companies and liaising with our client's auditors as to content and review.
• Management Accounts – Working with our client's Management Accountant to circulate regular, timely and up-to-date management reports to relevant standards.
• Compliance – Responsibility for ensuring compliance with all filing and regulatory requirements including Companies House.
• International – Liaising with our client's non-UK offices to ensure appropriate financial and process support is available, combined with ensuring compliance with Global financial policies.
• Processes and efficiency – Working with the wider Finance team to continue the process review already commenced for the purposes of a new practice management system. Make recommendations and changes to improve our client's financial performance and financial controls.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

• The successful candidate will ideally be a qualified accountant with significant experience of working within a professional services environment, ideally within a law firm.
• Experience of managing staff within a Finance or Accounts department would be advantageous.
• Strong presentation and report writing skills – the successful candidate will be expected to be able to analyse, generate and communicate financial reports, figures and recommendations.
• Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to form strong working relationships across all areas of the practice.
• Able to work to tight deadlines and at times under pressure, whilst maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Able to not only hit the ground running but also look for ways to improve efficiency and service where appropriate.

Suitable candidates should contact either Debbie Gray (nee Collett) deborah.gray@firstcounsel.com or Tim Skipper Tim.skipper@firstcounsel.com at First Counsel, who are handling this assignment exclusively.
